As part of their monthly metadata recommendation, Moburst, a mobile marketing agency, was seeking new keyword opportunities to optimize the app metadata of their client Upside, a cash-back app.

During their September keyword research for Upside, the Moburst team was researching seasonal keywords and noticed that the keyword “black friday” typically experiences a significant surge in search traffic in the US starting in mid-October.

Therefore, the Moburst team decided to use AppTweak to adapt their client app’s metadata and take advantage of the upcoming seasonal event.

Solution

Moburst leveraged AppTweak’s ASO tools to optimize Upside’s metadata and improve its ranking for the seasonal keyword “black friday.” The key features used included:

  • Seasonal Keyword Discovery: By leveraging AppTweak’s Keyword Research tool, the Moburst team identified high-volume seasonal keywords, including “black friday.” These keywords were then integrated into Upside’s iOS metadata a few weeks before the anticipated search traffic spike.
  • Traffic Analysis: By using AppTweak’s Monitor Performance feature, the Moburst team analyzed search traffic trends, allowing them to track when seasonal keywords were likely to peak in popularity.
  • Ongoing Rank Monitoring: After updating the metadata, Moburst monitored the keyword ranking performance through AppTweak to track seasonal fluctuations in real time.

AppTweak’s platform made it easy for Moburst to identify seasonal trends, analyze keyword volume history, and monitor ranking improvements, allowing for a smooth and proactive approach to metadata optimization.

Results

The impact of the seasonal metadata optimization was felt almost immediately. Within just 1 month of implementing the changes, the Upside app’s organic ranking for “black friday” soared from being unranked to an impressive #9 in the US. Additionally, long tail permutations of ‘black friday’ were also impacted, just by adding both words.
